How to avoid bad smell while boiling the cauliflower

With bread, milk, a nutshell or a cork!

We really like any kind of boiled vegetable, but we are always reluctant to boil the cauliflower because the house fills with a very unpleasant smell. So we went to seek suggestions from old and dusty books of recipes in our bookcase: we found in there several good (and bizarre) ideas!

The slice of bread

Uncover slightly the pot of your boiling cauliflower, in order to release the steam. Take a very large slice of bread and place it over the steam. The slice of bread must be set so that it is affected by the steam and does not fall within the pot. The bread will absorb the unpleasant smell!

Bread and vinegar

Put a crumb of bread soaked in vinegar.

With milk

Pour a spoon full of milk in the water of the cauliflower. It will gain in flavor, too!

The nutshell?

Drop a couple of nutshells (previously washed) into the cooking water.

The cork?!?

Put a cork in the boiling water. Well, I confess that the remedy of the cork leaves me a bit puzzled, however, I will try that too. Have fun :)
